Asking for Help Is Strength โ€” Benefits & Community Resources

Written by the Apple & Oak social workers, Laura & John ๐ŸŒฟ ยท free to read and share

Many single parents struggle alone simply because nobody showed them the map. Here it is:

Government support. Child benefits, tax credits, housing help, free school meals, childcare support. If forms feel impossible, a social worker can sit with you and fill them in โ€” that is literally our job.

Schools. Teachers and family liaison workers can offer counselling, breakfast clubs, and flexibility when life is hard. Tell them your situation โ€” they want to help.

Food banks and community fridges. No shame, no judgement โ€” they exist for exactly these seasons of life.

Local parent groups and charities. Free activities, second-hand clothes, friendship, and people who understand.

Us. Apple & Oak is here: live chat with Laura (mothers) and John (fathers), our journal with advice and news, and the community wall where parents help parents. All free, all confidential.

Asking for help is not the opposite of strength. It is strength. ๐ŸŒฟ

Need someone to talk to about this? Laura (for mothers) and John (for fathers) are here โ€” free and confidential.
